The number of leaks about the new game in the Grand Theft Auto series has increased recently. Claims about the release date of the game made a big impact on social media. A new information revealed that Rockstar Games’ GTA 6 has been in development for close to 10 years.
Rockstar’s GTA 6 has been in development since 2015
According to details on the LinkedIn profile of a former Rockstar employee, GTA 6 has been in development since early 2015. The open-world game, which was previously reported to have a budget of 2 billion dollars, looks set to be the biggest production of all time.
Jon Young, a former research editor at Rockstar, said he worked on GTA 6 for three years until he left the company in 2018. This means that the game was in development at least as early as 2015. At 7-8 years, this is one of Rockstar’s longest development cycles ever.
For comparison, GTA 5 began development in 2008, shortly after the release of GTA 4. GTA 4, which launched in 2008, began pre-production in late 2004 after GTA San Andreas.
Considering that GTA 6 has been in development since 2015 and Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two has hinted at a 2024 release, we can expect the next installment to break records.
Additionally, Young mentioned in 2008 that he was working on two different Bully games. Considering that Bully 2 was canceled in 2010, this leak suggests that Bully 3 was also in development at one point.
